Mensagem de Id ul Fitr - 2011 / 1432 H

Posted: June 12, 2013, 5:08 pm

Assalamu Alaikum:

O Id ul Fitr marca o fim do mês do Ramadão.

Que Deus nos mantenha no caminho recto no sentido de obtermos as Bênçãos, a Misericórdia e o perdão de Deus;

Que Deus nos dê forças para vivermos como Muçulmanos, honesto e sinceros, dignos de exemplo;

Ameen

M. Yiossuf Mohamed

REFLECTION: Thoughts on "islamic" racism

Posted: March 24, 2014, 4:14 am

Racism.

It's a complex phenomenon.

Its victims are many, and often its perpetrators do not cite race as their inspiration.

But in some circles, the perpetrators of racism are seen as being all of one colour. Perhaps not a literal colour. Perhaps colour is a loose term used to describe a category. But colour is used.

There is a theory in some social sciences circles that speaks of "whiteness". It refers not specifically to persons of white skin. It is much broader.

But sadly, some in less mature Australian Muslim circles who claim some qualification in politics, sociology and other social sciences, are attempting to apply their own brand of whiteness theory on a faith that is colour blind.

Yet the contradictions in this group are extraordinary.

One is a psychologist of Palestinian extraction who has anglicised her surname.

Another is an Adelaide-based post doc who was born in the United Kingdom and has skin almost as white as snow.

More to come.

Het grote racismedebat 2014

Posted: October 24, 2014, 4:32 pm

Coffee

About 1,600,000,000 cups of coffee are consumed every day around the world. Billions of people rely on it as part of their daily routines. And yet, very few people are aware of the Muslim origins of this ubiquitous drink.

According to the historical record, in the 1400s coffee became a very popular drink among Muslims in Yemen, in the southern Arabian Peninsula. Legend goes that a shepherd (some say in Yemen, some say in Ethiopia) noticed that his goats became very energetic and jumpy when they ate beans from a particular tree. He had the courage to try them himself, noticing they gave him an energy boost. Over time, the tradition of roasting the beans and immersing them in water to create a sour yet powerful drink developed, and thus, coffee was born.

Organic Halal Meats Get Muslims Thinking About What It Really Means To Eat Religiously

Posted: October 10, 2014, 4:53 pm
By | Huffington Post  | 10 Oct 2014

The Prophet Muhammad advised his followers to treat animals with kindness and, if needed, kill them mercifully for food. And he didn’t mince words.

“Whoever kills a sparrow or anything bigger than that without a just cause, Allah will hold him accountable on the Day of Judgment,” the Prophet reportedly said.

Remembering these instructions, New York farmer Zaid Kurdieh says much of the meat that brands itself as halal, or religiously permissible, is nothing but a sham.
